Background:
Doug has served as Field Director of the Japan mission since 1981.  Doug and Sharon have been called to serve as interim pastor of the Kongo Bible Church; they returned to that ministry after home assignment in 2003.

In a recent prayer letter, the Woykes wrote: We thank you for praying for the Christmas events at the Kongo Bible Church.  This year in my English classes, I decided to focus on “Why Christmas was necessary” rather than on the facts of the day so I gave each student a bilingual copy of the “Four Spiritual Laws.”  We had some very good discussions.  Please pray for us as we follow up these conversations.  At church, we did everything on Christmas Day as many of our church people come from quite a distance.  We had the Christmas worship at 10:30, the Kids’ Christmas at 1:30 and the Christmas Celebration at 3:30.  There were visitors at all three services.  Pray that God will bless His Word and soften the hearts of those who heard the true message of Christmas.

December and January have brought record cold and snow to Japan.  One day it was 0 degrees C in our living room.  It has warmed up a bit, but not much.

In our November letter, we mentioned that there have been some relationship problems within the Kongo Bible Church.  The couple who had stayed away for four months is back and have been attending faithfully but there are still areas of tension so we continue to ask that you would pray that our focus would be on Jesus and not on personal likes and dislikes.  Our annual business meeting is on March 19th.  Pray for unity.

We thank you for praying for Doug’s health.  For the past couple of months he has been having different tests as a cancer marker number was higher than normal.  To date nothing has been found so we praise God for His peace and protection.
